The album is based on the novel 'Krabat' by Otfried Preußler. It is about a school of black magic at a mill where orphans learn magic from the ruthless Master who takes one life every year to live forever. No apprentice can escape the Mill. The prophecy says that only true love can save one from the Master and set one free.

The album is a journey of the black sorcerer's apprentice Krabat. It starts like a cold winter morning of an orphan, goes through oaths and secrets of black school to the hope of salvation.
