Releasing its horror in chapters, Alder Deep is a master at in the craft of psychological warfare. Crafted in real time with a single pass of synthesizer, looped, layered, distorted and decaying, the dreadful story begins with a descent in search of promised treasure that quickly turns into a claustrophobic exploration of untrod caverns, isolated and without hope. As we traverse the suffocating landscape, our memories become warped and our thoughts are consumed by the murky depths. Terrifying creatures, real and imagined, seem to lurk around every corner until at last we find ourselves in the lair of an ancient evil, The Alderen. Enticed by simple, honest melodies, the only solid thing through the perception of frayed sanity, we realize the surroundings are alive, crawling, swarming in sentience. Alder Deep makes the recognizable traits of dungeon synth more potent and menacing by setting them against an organic, evolving backdrop. Listeners may not even be aware that their fates have been sealed as they are led right into the jaws of this entombed evil.
